91-year-old Frank had no idea he had an inguinal hernia.
Frank had swelling in the lower part of his tummy on both sides – but it was not painful. He must have had this protrusion for nearly a year – but it was getting larger.
Before Lockdown, Frank was diagnosed by his GP for having a hernia and he said to get in touch if it began to hurt and go straight to A&E.
His swelling became more uncomfortable and then Lockdown happened. In the end it would have been up to 12 months before he could be seen on the NHS, as hospitals were not performing minor operations.
Frank talked to his daughter who suggested to expedite things – get the surgery done privately and pay for his own treatment. So, he went on the BMI website and looked up general surgeons at BMI The Princess Margaret Hospital and he came across Mr Bearn.
It was all very easy. Frank booked an appointment with Mr Bearn, had an examination diagnosing him with an inguinal hernia and confirming the need for surgery. Frank was booked in quickly and had his surgery in July this year at BMI The Princess Margaret Hospital staying in overnight.
Initially, Frank was in some pain, but within two weeks he felt much better. He started playing golf again six weeks later and is now enjoying walking again.
Frank said: “Mr Bearn has a wonderful bedside manner and is very polite. He was very attentive, explained everything clearly and in good detail. I am very pleased indeed with everything. Thank you so much Mr Bearn.”
